Boiling Complexity Down to 90 Days

“What can we do together in the next 90 days?”

When trying to make sense of complex organizational issues, problems and challenges, it can be useful to think about what can be done right now despite a long-term fog.

  • What is the next step?
  • What can we do next week?
  • What are the overlaps between people at the table?

I tend towards wanting everything figured out before I take the first step.  Recently, as part of a cross-divisional team, it was helpful for everyone at the table to say, “we don’t know the long-term structure, but it must be done, how can we start together in the next 90 days?”

What tactics do you have for getting started on complex issues?
